This is Real Life
My mother-in-law moved in with us a couple of months ago. We’ve been planning this for some time and we actually thought she would have moved in about a year ago.
But, she just wasn’t ready.
I think this is a lesson we can take from her.
Sometimes we feel like we just have to get rid of this or that because it would help us be more organized. While we can agree that having less stuff certainly makes it easier to be organized, what if you’re not ready to part with some things?
What does the thought of getting rid of your wedding dress do to your desire to organize? What does that thought of getting rid of the baby clothes do to your desire to organize?
If you’re not ready you’re not ready and that is OK.
You’ll know when you are ready. I truly never thought I would be, but the day did come where I felt like I was ready to take the maternity clothes out of my closet because I knew that I was never going to need them again.
Bottom line?
Don’t get rid of stuff just for the sake of easier organization in your home.
There’s a better way so that you can wait until you’re ready.
That’s where I come in. I help you figure out what works best for you, your family and your current season of life.
Midweek Organizing Quick Tips
Actionable tips that you can do quickly on a busy day that help your home be more organized and functional.
Quick Tip 1 - The 2 Minute Rule
If you can pick it up and put it away in 2 minutes or less, do it right away.
That’s the 2 minute rule in a nutshell.
This isn’t meant to be how you organize your entire home with 2-minute tasks back to back to back. Instead, in the normal daily flow of life, if you can do something to tidy up your home in 2 minutes or less, do it then and there. Don’t set something on the counter to be put away later if it’s something you can do in 2 minutes or less.
You can actually get a lot done in 2 minutes. Start a timer and just watch it tick down. It feels like forever!
The pictures below are an example of what can be done in 2 minutes or less.
Everyone had dentist appointments and got their little bag of goodies. Putting them in the bathroom and putting the other things in the little container took less than 2 minutes.
See how much better it looks!
Sometimes it’s just the simple little things that can make a big difference in the course of a normal day.
