Spring Cleaning - An Invitation
I’m guessing you’re not a huge fan of spring cleaning. Neither am I!
Here’s the thing. When we make an effort to deep clean some areas of our home, we are caring for our home. It’s just a bit of what God has given us to take care of and we want to do that well. Daily life can be overwhelming and make us feel that there is just no way possible that we could actually do spring cleaning.
Spring cleaning sounds overwhelming, but it does not have to be an all or nothing thing.
I am inviting you to participate in the Spring Cleaning Challenge by becoming a Home Organizing Community Member. Click the subscribe button to review your options of joining the community. The Spring Cleaning Challenge is for paid and premier subscribers. Continue below to see exactly what is happening in the Spring Cleaning Challenge. It’s likely not what you’ve seen or are used to.
What to expect in the Spring Cleaning Challenge
Spend time over the course of 3 days creating a plan and preparing for spring cleaning.
Determine what needs to be cleaned compared to the amount of time you have to make it happen. There’s no sense in planning to deep clean your bathroom cabinets if they are filled with stuff accumulated over 10 years when you won’t actually have the time to take everything out, decide what to do with it and do what needs to be done with it all. Review what tools and supplies you may need and ensure you have them on hand before starting. If you’re not sure what tools or supplies are needed, you’ll have me to ask!
Tackle the areas you planned to deep clean, taking it week by week and adjusting as needed.
You’ll share with the community what your plan is for the upcoming week, any questions you have, before pictures, after pictures and anything else you’d like to share. This community will support you. I’ll be guiding you, offering encouragement and motivation along the way and answering your questions.
Regular times to connect via Zoom or Google Meet with the community.
As questions arise or discussion is needed, I’ll host connecting time for the community on a Zoom or Google Meet video conference. You will be able to contribute to the discussion to get your personal situations resolved and share solutions that you’ve learned with others.
Live Q&A sessions as the need arises.
I envision these being weekly, but want to adjust based on the needs of the community.
Mid-week quick tips
Share in the comments of this post the quick tip you did or are going to do.
Home Organizing Quick Tip
Organize your cleaning supplies.
Why?
In preparation for spring cleaning, organizing your cleaning supplies will be helpful when you’re determining if you need additional supplies before getting started.
Also, when your cleaning supplies are more organized it’s just easier to ensure you don’t run out of anything.
How?
Create a central hub for storing your cleaning supplies. This can be anywhere really. We have ours in our pantry.
Store needed cleaning supplies where they are used.
This is in addition to what is in the central hub. This makes sense when you have multiple bathrooms - maybe a kids bathroom and a gues bathroom. Storing the supplies in the bathrooms encourages and enables the users of those bathrooms to clean them too!
When a cleaning supply is emptied, a replacement is pulled from the central hub. This makes it easier to know what you need to purchase and when.
Cleaning Quick Tip
Clean the inside and outside (if possible) of the window you look out most.
Why?
This is specifically for your enjoyment. So that you can see outside better.
Cleaning only one window may feel “wrong” but it isn’t. You likely would have to allocate a large amount of time to clean all the windows and this really makes you delay in doing the task!
One window can be done quickly.
How?
I learned this really awesome way to clean windows from a friend and professional home cleaner.
Use a microfiber cloth. Run it under warm water and wring it out so it’s not drippy.
Wipe down the entire window. It’ll look all streaky and wet.
Use a sack cloth to wipe the window dry.
This seriously works better than any window cleaner I’ve ever used!
Time Management Quick Tip
Do a brain dump.
Why?
You’ll immediately feel relieved.
You’ll have more clarity on what you need to work on first or next.
How?
Use paper and pen or type it up, either will be great!
Write everything that comes to your mind. Anything you know you need to do. Anything you know you want to do. Anything your spouse or kids asked you to do. Things you want someone else to get done or get started. Put it all down. Don’t worry about the order.
Prioritize the top 5 items, no more than 10. This is truly an optional step. The mere act of getting all the things out of your head and onto paper truly frees your mind up. You’ll become more productive in the process!
