3 unexpected bathroom vanity organizing ideas

reduce stress and simplify your morning routine

Let me give you a super short introduction.
I’m Tammy, a busy wife and mom just like you with a household to manage.

For most of my kids infant to tween years I experienced debilitating self doubt in how I managed all the things at home and work because of the perfection our society seems to expect of us as moms.

After recognizing that my home wasn’t the peaceful home I wanted it to be because I was pursuing perfection, I began to research and make changes and I’m here to help you make changes too. Changes that put you, your family and your current season of life at the core of it all so that you can finally have the peaceful home you desire.

Instead of pursuing perfection and a magazine worthy bathroom vanity and cabinet, you’re focusing on making improvements.

Improvements that reduce stress and simplify your morning routine.

Bathroom vanity and cabinet organizing idea #1

Manage your expectations within the context of your real life.

Let how you use your vanity and cabinets determine what organized means to you. You’ve probably heard the saying, one man's trash is another man's treasure. In terms of organizing, realize that one moms mess is another moms organized. Think through that a moment. Your mess, what you feel is a complete mess truly could be what I see as organized.

We are all different. How we think and function is different from one another and that is truly a blessing. We can lean into what comes naturally to each one of us instead of fighting how God made us.

Now, I’m not saying that you want to lean into disorganization because that’s easier. That’s not what I’m saying at all. Instead, if stacks work for you or if bins work for you or if having your most used items on the counter makes sense for you, these things are all perfectly fine. It’s about finding what works best for you, your family and your current season of life.

Bathroom vanity and cabinet organizing idea #2

Throw away things that are no good or that are not used anymore.

If you have makeup that’s yucky, just toss it. If you have anything that you don’t use anymore - make up, soaps, lotions and such. It’s ok to throw them away. I had this face cream that I paid a lot of money for. I had it for a lot of years. I didn’t really use it because I just don’t use stuff like that, but when I bought it I was feeling like it was something that I should be doing. It’s ok, but it took me a long time to finally throw it away. It went bad. It smelled gross. So, if you have things like that, it’s ok to throw them away.

When you do this, do it quickly. Don’t overthink things. If you don’t know if you’re ready to throw it away, then keep it. It’s ok to keep things. The point is to do this quickly so that you’re not spending all day on the task. You are still improving the organization within that space.

Sorting through your things is a step in organizing any space in your home. There’s a way to learn how to do this in a way that works for you. Bathroom vanity and cabinet organizing idea #3

Focus on the function by identifying what is used most often and make it easily accessible.

I have my makeup, toothbrush, toothpaste and deodorant in a small container on top of my vanity. These are the things I use everyday. I want them at my fingertips. They aren’t laying all over the top of my vanity in what feels chaotic to me, they’re contained. This works for me. I don’t mind them on top of my vanity. I have plenty of space under my vanity in the cabinet, but that isn’t functional to me. I would go through the process of taking them out of the cabinet and I know myself well enough to know that I would not put them back in the cabinet everyday.

You are busy. You may be in a rush getting yourself ready each morning before kids wake up. Think about how you function in this space. Incorporate this into how you store the things that you are using most often.

Again, the point is to make incremental improvements.

Improvements that bring out your natural tendencies. Lean into what works for you. Don’t get wrapped up in what society tells you. You are an organized person. You can organize in a way that works for you, your family and your current season of life.
